S Club 7 Saved by Extra Cash?
It’s been reported in a UK tabloid that popsters S Club 7 have been offered £700,000 to stop them from calling it quits.
The chart-topping band allegedly considered contacting their lawyers after rows over pay and complaints that their working hours were too long.
But apparently their record company, Polydor, stumped up the money, a £100,000 cheque for each of them, in order to quickly sweeten the group and keep them together.
A band insider told the ‘News Of The World’: “The kids are exhausted. They really put in the hours and were beginning to feel hard done by by both their management and their record company.
“This week they were determined to bring things to a head and talked about getting together with their legal team on Friday. But it seems Polydor got wind of something and decided to stop the rot before it was too late.”
A spokeswoman for S Club 7 told dotmusic that the report is unfounded. She said: “They haven’t been paid off to be silent at all. There is no chance that they’re splitting up.
“The band are happy and are touring in the spring. They’re also going back to LA to make another TV series towards the end of 2001.”
