Bradley Surprises Clubbers
A former member of chart-topping pop group S Club proved there “ain’t no party like a Peterborough party” when he paid a surprise visit to a city nightclub.
Bouncers at the city’s Park nightclub couldn’t believe their eyes when they saw Bradley McIntosh, queuing up to get into the Urban Nation dance night.
The down-to-earth star, who had come to the city after a record company bash in Cambridge on Saturday, happily paid for his ticket to go into the Park Road venue along with three friends.
Head of security Wayne Morris said: “I was really busy when I first saw him, and I’d let him in before it occurred to me exactly who he was.”
However, the star’s boyish good looks were soon spotted by a DJ and a barman who reported the celebrity sighting to owner Del Singh. The city businessman was delighted to greet the shy singer, who he said insisted that he didn’t want any “star” treatment.
Mr Singh said: “I asked if I could have a word with him, and he was very polite and came into my office with one of his friends. “He confirmed who he was, but wanted to play the whole thing down.”
“He just wanted to enjoy himself and have a hassle-free night out. I offered him some champagne, but he opted for Red Bull and signed his autograph for my twin daughters who are fans of the group.”
He told Mr Singh he had come to Peterborough as he wasn’t impressed with the clubs in Cambridge who played mainly dance music and had found out about the venue from two Americans he had met earlier that day.
Mr Singh said: “It was very flattering that he chose the Park and he was so down to earth. We’ve had a few celebrity guests in the past, but they usually telephone first.”
Bradley then spent the rest of the night in the club, and chatted to astonished revellers.
Mr Singh added that before the singer left he told him there was a strong chance he would return, and would like to play a DJ set at the venue.
Bradley was unfortunately unavailable for comment.
