It’s a sunny day on Miami beach and the S Clubbers spend the day dancing on the boardwalk. Like most of the S Club videos, there’s not much of a plot line to this video but it was a great video to blast off the S Clubbers’ careers.
More info:
There was no escaping S Club’s launch in the summer of ’99! Their debut TV show, Miami 7, was an instant international hit and became the year’s highest rating children’s series. Meanwhile, Bring It All Back, the theme tune from Miami 7, zoomed straight to the number one position on the UK singles chart.
“We were in the middle of a massive promotional tour of radio stations all over the country, just before the single was released,” says Jon, “I remember someone called us to say that Top Of The Pops was showing our video for the very first time. So there we all were, on the tour bus, huddled around this tiny TV set – which had like zero reception. But, even so, seeing the video on TV for the first time gave us the biggest buzz ever, as it made everything suddenly seem real!”

The S Clubbers accidentally stumble through a wormhole in time which throws them back 40 years to 1959. Lost, the S Clubbers drive into a local car park in the middle of the desert and find a rival band called The Rockets. The Rockets challenge the S Clubbers to a race and they weren’t going to be the ones to back down. The video mainly consists of the race and in the end, the S Clubbers win and drive away.

S Club were back in the US in the summer of ’99, filming their Back To The 50s TV special and the video for their second single.
“I remember we had a four-hour drive out to the Californian desert to shoot the video for S Club Party and it was scorching hot,” Hannah recalls, “The funniest was that for the part where we each jump in the air and write an ‘S’ in the sky, for some reason, Jo lucked out and didn’t get to use a trampoline like the rest of us, which explains her pained expression!”
The S stayed at one of LA’s chic-est hotels, which boasted a naked model in a glass case in the reception area, and in typical S Club style, Paul stripped to his undies and managed to persuade hotel staff to let him have a go. He wasn’t invited back.

This video is a basic flashback to the eighties. The S Clubbers suit up in their fave trends from the 80s and dance away in front of a white background. As the video progresses, the S Clubbers get soaked when soap and bubbles start to fly everywhere. They enjoy the bubbles while they last, by slipping and sliding around the floor, before getting back up and dried to perform a final dance. Then suddenly, 50 other people appear out of nowhere and start dancing as glitter and confetti fall from the sky.

With their debut album, S Club, riding high in the charts, the group went on a whirlwind European promotional tour, culminating in a massive record signing at a store in London’s Oxford Street. The street and store were completely mobbed and traffic was brought to a standstill outside. S Club mania had well and truly arrived!
It’s the video for You’re My Number One that’s become Bradley’s enduring memory of this track. “The shoot was a total disaster for me,” he remembers. “Our stylist at the time, turned up with two or three different outfits for everyone else, but just a pair of bright orange combats for me! It’s easily the worst thing I’ve ever had to wear during my time in S Club. To make things even worse, there wasn’t time to braid my hair, so I had to wear a baseball cap, but backwards so that the logo wouldn’t show. I looked awful! Fortunately we’re covered in foam for the second half of the video, so my outfit was hidden, but what a nightmare!”

In a small town filled with depressed people, nothing seems to be going by happily… until the S Clubbers roll in with their S Bus. They begin throwing and spreading small candies around to all the depressed people and when they eat the candy, appropriately wrapped with “Eat Me” on the wrappers, they immediately jolt up and start dancing. Before the S Clubbers know it, they’ve got a whole town of singing, dancing citizens who are chasing after their bus. The S Clubbers go on their way, knowing they’ve made one town a happier place.

Fresh from winning the Best British Newcomer Award at The Brits 2000, S Club spent the first part of the year in Santa Monica, California, filming their second TV series, LA 7, before releasing the massive pop hit Reach.
Over to Tina… “The video for Reach was certainly the most bizarre to make, as it had a cast of thousands from all different walks of life, and originally included a giant parade of cheerleaders and punk rockers, which was actually left out of the final version. There were so many people on set that day, but there was a real party vibe and it’s still definitely one of our favourite S Club memories.”

The S Clubbers get stranded on a deserted tropical island. Taking breaks from dancing on the beach sand, the S Club Girls make grass skirts and prepare the tiki bar-type household and the guys go spear fishing and chop wood, while Bradley sleeps on the hammock. It proceeds into showers under the giant tropical waterfalls and ends off with songs by camp-fire.

Taking Fauré’s Pavane as its theme, Natural gave Rachel her first chance to shine on lead vocals. Performing the track live on the group’s S Club Party Tour in 2001 did prove somewhat problematic though, as Rach had to climb up on to a podium high above the stage. “There were loads of steps to climb to get right to the top, and the whole thing wobbled each time I moved. It was really frightening!” she remembers.
Also at this time S Club became the UK’s biggest pop and TV export, when the number of countries screening their TV series exceeds the 100 mark!

The S Clubbers dance in the snow, dressed in parkas and snow gear. It ends with the S Clubbers changed into their night wear and gowns for final shots in front of a navy blue lake. This video had less of a plot than You’re My Number One, it was basically just eye candy.

Fresh from conquering the UK, Europe and Australia, S Club scored an incredible top 10 smash hit in America with this dramatic ballad.
Around the same time, Rachel was voted one of FHM’s sexiest females, and was specially helicoptered to the starry event in London from tour preparations in Sheffield. “I felt like a princess on the night of the awards,” she said at the time. But if her time away from rehearsals meant being less familiar with any of the tour’s intricate dance routines, Rach had a simple solution: “I decided just to turn around and shake my batty at the audience – and it worked every time!” she laughs.

It’s a night out clubbing with the S Clubbers. The video showcases the S Club having a good time performing at a club and dancing with their significant others. There is no real plotline to this video but it’s basically just a night out with the S.

S Club’s second platinum-seller, this became the disco anthem of summer 2001, hit the number one position twice, and went on to win the S the much-coveted Record Of The Year gong.
“Things got a but hairy while we were shooting the video though,” recalls Tina. “We’d hired a glitzy ballroom in London for the day, so there we were sourrounded by feathers, carnival costumes, dancers and glitter-balls, giving it large, when one of the cameras bumped into this antique crystal chandelier – that had obviously been hanging up there for years – and it came crashing down, sending glass flying everywhere. We thought the club’s owners were going to throw us out after that!”

This video is one of the saddest S Club videos. It shows the S Clubbers dealing with the loss of loved ones and the depression that follows in the mourning process. As the video progresses, it explains that the only way to get over losing someone is by sticking together and friendship; everybody needs a shoulder to cry on.

“I love singing big old slushy ballads like this one, and being all dramatic!” says Jo, of 2001′s official BBC Children In Need single. “This song’s particularly special for me because my grandad passed away at the time it was released, so I always have happy memories of him whenever we perform it.”
Around the same time, the band explored the four corners of the earth, filming their TV series S Club Go Wild. “I visited Siberia and Kenya – and the trip was far from glamorous,” Rachel remembers. “We’d wake up to find cockroaches under our beds, which was awful.”
The group also tour South East Asia towards the end of the year, where a fan asked Hannah for an… er, eyelash. Whatever!

The video opens with a radio advertisement for the ‘S Club 7 – House Of The Future’, and as it ends, Rachel’s gloved hand creeps in and turns it off, blasting into the actual house. The video is all about Rachel trying to find love, and everytime she finds love, Jo pops into the scene and draws the guys away from Rachel. In the end of the video, when Rachel feels all alone, the other S Clubbers grab her and give her all the attention in the world. This video is all about love and relationships, and if a few relationships don’t go your way, don’t give up because there’s someone in the world for everyone.

A crowd-pleasing favourite on all three S Club tours, who can ever forget the candyfloss-bright, tongue-in-cheek 50s pastiche in the hilarious video for this, S Club’s 9th single?
“We had such a laugh filming this one,” says Jon. “The video gave us the chance to ham it up like never before, with the cheesiest of storylines. It’s actually quite surreal, what with Rachel playing a space-age housewife, Hannah tap-dancing in fishnet tights, and a completely bonkers umbrella dance routine. We all nearly wet ourselves the first time we saw the finished clip as it’s just so hilarious.”

Having been away from the UK filming their final TV series, Viva S Club – during which time Paul decided to leave the band – and their movie, Seeing Double, in Barcelona and LA, the S bounced back with this power-packed dancefloor filler.
“I think the video director was getting a bit fed up with us while we were filming the clip for Alive,” says Hannah, “It wasn’t our fault though – the day of the shoot coincided with the final of the first series of American Idol, and we were all glued to this tiny TV set in our trailer!”

London’s Leicester Square was packed with over 1,500 fans for the world premiere of S Club’s debut big-screen adventure, Seeing Double, which features Love Ain’t Gonna Wait For You. While Jo revealed she’d like Kathy Burke to play her in a movie of her life, Tina revealed even more at the premiere turning up in an incredibly skimpy frock! Unsurprisingly she made the front page of the Daily Star the next day. “I can’t believe the fuss that dress caused,” Tina smiles. “My dad’s still getting over the shock!”

Storyline: It’s the end of S Club! The S Clubbers are in the S Club house packing their things, taking old photos down from the wall, watching some of their music videos on a TV, remembering all the good times in the years that have past.

“The S Club girls got quite choked up when we first heard a demo version of Say Goodbye,” says Bradley of S Club’s final single. “It is a sad song, I guess, but happy too as it’s all about looking back over the good times, but also facing up to the fact that everything and everyone has to move on.”
Jo’s equally as fond of Say Goodbye. “It’s the kind of song everyone can relate to. We should always cherish our memories of the past, but also look forward to our future dreams.”
